Filled with complex 19th century sets, this film was inspired by the novel of the same name. The 1952 drama centers on a young man as he plots revenge against the woman he believes murdered his cousin, but his plans are thrown when he comes face to face with the beautiful woman he has accused. This story has inspired three different films of the same name. John DeCuir was one of two art directors for this film, helping to create ornate 19th century Cornwall setting.


When Philip Ashley’s much-loved (and rich) cousin Ambrose dies, he is convince that Ambrose was murdered by his new wife Rachel to inherit his wealth.. But when he meets Rachel and falls in love with her, he knows that his suspicions must have been unfounded. But were they, or is Rachel just trying to use Philip to get at the estate Ambrose left to him instead of to her? And will she murder him next?
