ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

A young Liza Minnelli sings opposite an equally young Robert DeNiro in this post WWII musical. The two play struggling musicians who walk together through a tumultuous relationship as they fight to succeed in their work. This was Scorcese’s first film after helming the hit Taxi Driver. Despite its title, this film was only partially filmed in New York City. A fair number of the sets were filmed on sets in Los Angeles.

SUMMARY

The day WWII ends, Jimmy, a selfish and smooth-talking musician, meets Francine, a lounge singer. From that moment on, their relationship grows into love as they struggle with their careers and aim for the top.
