Bob Mackie is a costume designer and has worked in the costume and wardrobe department since 1963. In 1969, he and costume designer Ray Aghayan worked together on the film Gaily, Gaily (1969), which was nominated for an Oscar for costume design. Both Mackie and Aghayan went on to work together on other films, Lady Sings the Blues (1972) and Funny Lady (1975), which were nominated for Oscars in costume design. In 1982, he was nominated for another Oscar, this time without Aghayan, for Pennies from Heaven (1981), and at the same time served as the costume designer for that year’s Oscars.
