Van Nest Polglase was an art director and production designer from 1925 to 1956. As an art director, Polglase worked on 337 films over his entire career. Polglase is best known for his role as art director on Citizen Kane (1942), which was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration category. Polglase also received five other Oscar nominations for best art direction; those films are The Gay Divorcee (1934), Top Hat (1935), Carefree (1939), Love Affair (1939), and My Favorite Wife (1940).
