ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
This screen adaptation of the stage musical focuses on Continental Congressmen John Adams as he attempts to convince Thomas Jefferson and the rest of the congress to sign the declaration of independence. The film features songs that sometimes get their lyrics directly from the letters and memoirs of the actual historical figures.
A number of the outdoor shots were filmed at what is now the Warner Ranch. The water fountain featured during "The Lees of Old Virginia" is probably best known to television viewers as the fountain seen at the beginning of the TV show Friends (1994). Most of the other featured colonial sets were destroyed by a fire in the 1970s.
SUMMARY
A musical retelling of the American Revolution's political struggle in the Continental Congress to declare independence.
